Altar Society and Sacred Linen Care

This ministry services the linens used on the altar during Mass: purificators, corporals, altar cloths. Sacred linens are washed in a particular way in two stages. They are first purified in the sacrarium sink in the sacristy and dried, then they are laundared in private homes and returned properly folded to the sacristy in time for Masses. Linens are collected after each Mass and are laundered on scheduled days. The volunteers rotate the schedule so more than one person is doing the work.  The priests' albs, amices, chasubles and other vestments are also cared for by volunteers to either launder them at home or take them to the dry cleaner as needed.

We need a sufficient number of volunteers throughout the year, but volunteers can serve seasonally especially if they normally go out of area for the summer. We need people willing to give the careful attention to washing, ironing and folding the linens for their sacred use at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.  We will provide volunteers with instrucions for this ministry, especially the proper folding of corporals and purificators.
