Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Participants in this ministry distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful on behalf of the Community so as to witness, to serve, and to realize the kingdom of God. It is a public activity of a baptized follower of Christ that flows from the gifts of the Holy Spirit. To serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, reflects not only a response to one's Baptismal call to service, but a commitment to Christ as the participants share in the ministry of the Eucharist.

Reverence for the Most Blessed Sacrament is essential in this ministry and every effort must be made to avoid scandalizing others. A candidate must be at least 16 years old and have received the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, 1st Holy Communion, and Confirmation and attend Mass regularly as well as actively support the church).

Our diocesan bishop and office of Sacred Worship have established requirements for proper formation for this ministry. See: Requirements for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
