Our Priests

Father Hans P. Ruygt
ordained April 13, 1985
He has been shepherding our parish since July 2002. He was born in the Netherlands and moved with his family to northern California when he was an infant. He attended Catholic elementary school and public high school in Napa, then worked for several years with developmentally disabled adults in Napa before beginning seminary studies in Mountain View, CA where he obtained a B.A. degree in philosophy. He continued his studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, completing his master's degree before returned to California for ordination. He was ordained in April 1985 for the Diocese of Santa Rosa in California and worked in serveral parishes on the inland north coast before transferring to the Diocese of Phoenix in November 2000. He enjoys sharing the Catholic faith with others, reading, geography, traveling, gardening and nature. He speaks English as his primary language but grew up surrounded by Dutch speaking family members so he can carry a limited conversation in Dutch. He also learned Spanish in high school, college and parish life and is able to serve our Spanish speaking parishioners for the occasional wedding, funeral, quinceanera and weekly confessions. He is still learning Spanish.

Father Nicholas E. Koro, A.J.
ordained August 15, 2007
He is a welcome addition to our pastoral team.  He joined us at the end of August 2014 after serving in Tanzania in Africa.  He was born and raised in Turkana County, Kenya, which lies in northern Kenya along the borders of Uganda, South Sudan and Ethiopia.  He is from the town of Kakuma which is also the site of one of the largest refugee camps in the world as refugees from several African nations have fled violence in their own countries.  His parents still live in Turkana County and he has two brothers and one sister. His parents are retired pastoralists (or as we would say, migrant workers) who worked the land. His home parish is Good Shepherd Catholic Parish in Kakuma  in the Diocese of Lodwar. He attended Apostles of Jesus Theologicum in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya and was attracted to the Apostles of Jesus Missionaries who serve several parishes in his home diocese.  His priestly ordination was on August 19th 2007 in his home parish. He speaks British and American English (influenced by Swahili and his native Turkana dialect.)
