Mass for the Deaf
We have a sign language interpreter during our 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass every week. For those who cannot be with us, there are many different sources for Mass by deaf priests or with captioning or sign language interpreters. NCOD has dedicated their home page to what to do during this Coronavirus pandemic. I recommend you go there first. National Catholic Office for the Deaf (NCOD)
Perfect Act of Contrition
At a time when so many are self-quarantining and it may not be possible for them to confess their sins even though parishes are still offering confession, pastors can help the faithful to make a perfect act of contrition instructing the faithful according to the teachings of the church as found in the Catechism. Among the penitent's acts contrition occupies first place. Contrition is "sorrow of the soul and detestation for the sin committed, together with the resolution not to sin again.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1451) When the faithful are conscious of having committed a mortal sin and are unable to have access to the Sacrament of Confession, the Church invites us to make an act of perfect contrition, that is, of sorrow for sin, which “arises from a love by which God is loved above all else.” An act of perfect contrition “obtains forgiveness of mortal sins if it includes the firm resolution to have recourse to sacramental confession as soon as possible” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1452). An act of perfect contrition disposes our soul for Spiritual Communion. Please explain to the people this teaching so they can be prepared to receive the Lord through an act of Spiritual Communion that all have been asked to say during the live-streaming of Masses."
